Moving Mountains

When it comes to weight loss, emotions are apparently the bad guys.

When it comes to weight loss success we’re told to dial back the emotions and dial up the logic.

I get that, but I don’t get that.

I don’t get that because my astrological make-up is naturally pre-disposed to emotions rather than rationality. This means that in a group of people I will probably be able to read how they feel better than most. It means that if I’m being motivated to do something, I will respond to attachment. However it also means that I will struggle more with detaching from my emotions when it comes to achieving my goals.

And I’m not alone.

All the water signs have this natural tendency. Pisces Cancer, Scorpio- I’m looking at you.

If the Moon was in once of these signs at the time that you were born, you can double that tendency- regardless of what your Sun sign is. This is how you react unconsciously to all circumstances- emotionally.

If your Rising sign is in one of these signs, you can also double that tendency.  Regardless of your Sun sign, you face the world with a watery view.

If your Mercury sign is in one of these signs, you are naturally programmed to make choices based on your feelings.

I’m putting my hand up on all of these.

Now most of you probably don’t know where your Moon, Mercury or Rising signs are (you need a birth chart to know that stuff), but if you’re nodding at this and you’re not a water sign, it’s a reasonable bet that your Moon or Mercury is in a water sign.

It’s the water signs that also have the biggest issue with letting go of emotions- and we know that is essential to mind-set change.

The other sign that has huge issues with letting go is Taurus…but that’s another story entirely.

Now, before you throw things at me, this doesn’t mean that water signs are destined to be fat- obviously that isn’t the case. It does mean that us watery types have more mind-set work to do than most others. Switching off that emotional eating switch and those feelings is difficult. But it can be done. Apparently. I’m a long way from being there.

The key lies in building a foundation and routine- getting in touch with earth.

Despite the challenges Taurus faces from a weight loss viewpoint (as I said, another story), Earth understands goals, hard work and consistency.

Water, though, is stronger than she looks- and more capable of change than she thinks- especially when it is done on a one thing at a time basis.

Think about water in nature- it changes shape depending on its environment. Water really can move mountains.
