Today is October 1. A new month.

It’s also the start of Oct-sober and Droptober.

Whilst anything that encourages the normalising or awareness of alcohol consumption is a good thing, the absolution of it is not healthy for me in my current mindset.

Droptober, however, is. So I’ve signed up.

Two kilos in a month is realistic. My previous goals have not been- which is why I’ve let go of goals.

The premise behind Droptober is one of changing just a few habits, a little at a time, to effect a progressive and lasting change.

Two kilos in a month isn’t all out massive can’t be sustained, completely unrealistic change. It’s more about identifying those things that are de-railing your health and tackling them gently.

The idea is that these changes will last into November and December and beyond.

The idea is that small changes will become bigger changes as confidence and health gains are experienced.

I like this idea.

Droptober is about raising money for childrens charities and obesity awareness. That’s a great cause. But I happen to think that I’m a better one- a better cause, that is.

So I’ve signed up.

I’m taking the opportunity to also look at my alcohol consumption, but also look at things like drinking more water, being more aware of portion sizes and getting back into my training routines. Simple changes done mindfully and gently.

Simplicity, gentleness and mindfulness being the operative words. It’s all part of my quest for focus and load lightening.

None of this means that I’m letting myself off the hook from a weight loss viewpoint. On the contrary, I’m being kinder and more compassionate to myself simply because I want to lose weight and I am getting very close to believing that not only can I do it, but that I deserve it.

I’ve signed up because I’m worth making these changes for.

What about you? Are you going sober for October? Are there changes or goals that you’re making this October?
