it’s training…but not as you know it…

My mother has always said that if she feels the urge to exercise, she figures that she must be unwell, so lies down until the feeling passes.

My mother is the same weight as she was the day she married my father nearly 49 years ago. She doesn’t take any formal exercise, yet she can walk for miles.

How does she do it?

If you asked her, she’d say ‘I vacuum…’

She also swims most days and walks to and from the shops- and there are very steep hills between my parents house and the shops.

It’s incidental exercise, it doesn’t involve a dull routine, and it can be done when she wants and in her own way.

My mother has Mars in Aquarius.

Mars is the planet of action. It’s about moving forward and going after the things that you want. It’s about the things that turn you on (and off), it’s about how you move your body (in bed and out) and it’s about how you use your energy.

The sign that Mars is in will also tell you a lot about your appetite- about what you’re really hungry for.

Mars in Aquarius is hungry for freedom, independence and originality. Mars in Aquarius needs room to breathe and space to think. Mars in Aquarius

If you’re a woman, the sign that Mars is in will show us a lot about what qualities you want in a partner (for a man we look to Venus and the Moon for this). If you want to know more about this, check out this post at my main astro site.

The sign that Mars is in can also pinpoint the perfect mode of training for you. Mars in Aquarius is more comfortable with non- formal modes of training- the types of exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise, incidental activity- exercise as a by-product to having fun.

Because Mars in Aquarius is motivated by ideas rather than action, you may get off more on the idea of moving your body than actually doing it. The challenge is to find something that satisfies your mental need for stimulation, and the physical reality of having to move your body.

The danger with Mars in Aquarius is if you spend too much time in your head with your ideas, and not enough time in touch with your body.

Aquarius is associated with the new, the inventive, the dynamic, so Mars in Aquarius will be the ones out there trying something different.  Just when you think he has his routine down pat though, he’ll surprise you by mixing it up.

A friend of mine with Mars in Aquarius trains for cycling events on a stationary cycle that is connected to other stationary cycles around the world. He chooses a route from one of the many available, and “races” other competitors. Another friend with Mars in Aquarius exercises at home with the help of a Wii.

It’s training, but not as you’d know it…
